Pres spox: Kremlin sees reason for optimism about Russian economy

MOSCOW, Oct 20 (PRIME) -- It is too early to make any conclusions regarding the trend in the Russian economy but there are modest reasons for optimism, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

Business daily Vedomosti reported earlier that the Economic Development Ministry forecasts economic stagnation for the next 20 years, with an average growth of 2% annually.

Peskov said that the presidential administration is unaware of this forecast. “This must be new work. As you know, let’s say indeed, the decline in a range of industries continues but we have entered a growth trend in other industries and as far as this balance changes to this or the other side at the end of this year and next year, and over the years to come, it will become clear to which extent we have managed to change the development vector. I mean growth, or decline, or stagnation.”
